Job Overview

The most impactful contribution you can make to a student's education isn't teaching them algebra. It's helping them believe they're capable of solving algebra independently. If that difference resonates with you, continue reading.

Alpha is a private school that has dismantled conventional instruction models. Students progress through academics using adaptive learning software at their own pace, advancing up to 2x faster than their traditionally‑educated peers. But software cannot build resilience. It cannot teach a reserved 7‑year‑old to stand and present confidently before an audience. That's where you come in. You'll dedicate half your day to facilitating one‑hour life skills workshops, coaching students in public speaking, teamwork, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange.

The remaining half involves 1:1 and small‑group motivation sessions where you forge genuine connections with students, establish ambitious academic targets, and ensure they meet those targets daily.

This is not a casual mentorship position. You'll monitor quantifiable results: every student achieving their academic benchmarks, demonstrating mastery on life skills assessments, and providing satisfaction ratings of 90% or higher. The students who push back hardest are often those who need your guidance most, and transforming a resistant child into one who actively wants to participate represents both the most challenging and most fulfilling aspect of this work.

What

You Will Be Doing
  • Facilitating one‑hour life skills workshops for K‑8 student groups, coaching skills including public speaking, teamwork, concentration, and feedback through structured exercises and narrative techniques.
  • Conducting 1:1 and small‑group motivation sessions where you establish goals with students, monitor their advancement in academic applications, and provide intervention when they underperform.
  • Modifying your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum: your methods for a kindergartner differ entirely from your approach with a 13‑year‑old.
  • Delivering Test2

Pass assessments to verify students have genuinely mastered the life skills you've coached.
  • Leveraging student profiles, performance data, and coachbot analytics to understand precisely where each student stands before every interaction.
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Delivering academic instruction. Students progress through math, reading, and science via adaptive software, not traditional lectures.
  • Creating lesson plans from the ground up. You'll utilize an established life skills curriculum and implementation guide.
  • Evaluating assignments, processing report cards, or preparing students for standardized examinations. Student mastery is confirmed through assessments you deliver, not administrative tasks.
  • Working from a desk. This position requires being on your feet, present in the room, engaging face‑to‑face with students throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities

Lead a cohort of K‑8 students to achieve mastery in life skills and reach ambitious academic targets.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with K‑8 students.
  • Demonstrated history of motivating or coaching K‑8 students toward goals exceeding baseline expectations, with at least one concrete example you can discuss in detail (the objective, your actions, the result).
  • Willing to work on‑site in Austin, TX (relocation assistance provided).
  • Comfortable operating in a non‑traditional learning environment centered on motivation and engagement rather than instruction.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship.
Nice‑to‑have Requirements
  • Background coaching or mentoring in youth sports, competitive academic settings, or structured enrichment programs.
  • Familiarity with behavioral motivation approaches such as goal‑setting frameworks, incentive structures, or accountability systems.
  • Proven ability to connect with disengaged or resistant young students and successfully turn them around.
  • Experience leading group sessions for mixed‑age…
