Learning & Development (L&D) Manager – UK Accounting

The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing training programs for the UK Accounting process. The role focuses on enhancing employee knowledge, technical accounting skills, process excellence, and compliance while ensuring high performance and continuous learning across teams.

Training Strategy & Delivery

• Design and implement comprehensive onboarding programs for new hires.
• Develop process-specific training modules for UK accounting operations.
• Conduct classroom, virtual, and on-the-job training sessions.
• Create annual learning calendars aligned with business goals.
• Identify skill gaps and implement targeted learning interventions.

• Bookkeeping fundamentals
• Accounts Payable (AP)
• Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Bank Reconciliation
• VAT basics and compliance
• Payroll overview
• General Ledger (GL)
• Month-end and Year-end Closing
• Financial Statement Preparation
• Management Accounts
• UK accounting terminology and best practices

Learning Content Development

• Develop SOPs, process manuals, presentations, e-learning modules, assessments, and knowledge repositories.
• Update training materials based on process changes and client requirements.
• Design quizzes, certifications, and competency assessments.

Performance Management

• Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, audits, and quality metrics.
• Conduct refresher training based on quality scores and operational feedback.
• Track learning KPIs including certification rates, productivity, and error reduction.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with Operations, Quality, SMEs, and Clients to identify learning needs.
• Support new process transitions and change management initiatives.
• Present training reports and improvement plans to leadership.

Team Management

• Lead and mentor L&D trainers and process trainers.
• Conduct trainer calibration sessions and train-the-trainer programs.
• Ensure consistent training quality across all batches.

• Strong understanding of UK accounting processes.
• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
• Knowledge of adult learning methodologies and instructional design.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret training metrics.
• Excellent coaching and mentoring abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

• UK GAAP fundamentals
• VAT regulations
• Xero, Sage, Quick Books, Free Agent, or similar accounting software
• KPI reporting and quality improvement methodologies

• Preferred CA, Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• MBA or professional certifications in Learning & Development are an advantage.
• Accounting qualifications (or progress toward them) are desirable.

• 6-10 years of overall experience in Learning & Development, with at least 3 years managing training teams.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in UK accounting processes.
• Experience in BPO/KPO, Shared Services, or Accounting Outsourcing is preferred.
