Position Title: Part-Time Music Teacher (Contract)
Reports To: Dean of Instruction
Contract Term: August 2026 – May 2027 (School Year )
Compensation: $14,000 total contract
, paid in equal monthly installments over the contract term. The contract is based on an equivalent daily rate of $78.21 (179 days) for services rendered. This is a 1099 independent contractor position and does not include employee benefits.

Position SummaryUPA is seeking an energetic and passionate Part-Time Music Teacher (Contractor) to build a strong foundation for our middle school music program. This individual will teach two sections of 7th Grade Music (120 minutes daily) while developing beginning instrumental music skills through an after-school band program. The ideal candidate understands that music is more than performance—it builds confidence, discipline, teamwork, creativity, and leadership.
PrimaryResponsibilities Instruction
- Teach two sections of 7th Grade Music each instructional day.
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons.
- Introduce students to music theory, rhythm, notation, instrumental performance, and music appreciation.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
- Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment.
- Organize and lead band rehearsals one to two times per week
, with the rehearsal schedule determined by the teacher in collaboration with school leadership. - Prepare students for school performances and community events.
- Assist with selecting music and organizing performances throughout the school year.
- Foster student commitment and enthusiasm for participation in band.
- Build meaningful relationships with students.
- Encourage student creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
- Communicate student progress with families as needed.
- Attend required staff meetings, professional development, and school events related to assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records.
- Collaborate with teachers and school leadership.
- Perform other music-related duties reasonably assigned by administration.
Required:
- Bachelor s degree or equivalent professional experience in Education, Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
- Ability to teach beginning instrumental music.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching music to middle school-aged students.
- Experience directing beginning band programs.
- Experience working in charter schools or Title I schools.
The contractor will provide services that include:
- Teaching two daily sections of 7th Grade Music
- Conducting 1–2 after-school band rehearsals each week
- Participation in required performances and agreed-upon school events
- Reasonable planning and preparation necessary to fulfill contractual responsibilities
