Unparalleled Preparatory Academy (UPA) – Part-Time Music Teacher (Contract Position).

Position Title: Part-Time Music Teacher (Contract)

Reports To: Dean of Instruction

Contract Term: August 2026 – May 2027 (School Year )

Compensation: $14,000 total contract
, paid in equal monthly installments over the contract term. The contract is based on an equivalent daily rate of $78.21 (179 days) for services rendered. This is a 1099 independent contractor position and does not include employee benefits.

Position Summary

UPA is seeking an energetic and passionate Part-Time Music Teacher (Contractor) to build a strong foundation for our middle school music program. This individual will teach two sections of 7th Grade Music (120 minutes daily) while developing beginning instrumental music skills through an after-school band program. The ideal candidate understands that music is more than performance—it builds confidence, discipline, teamwork, creativity, and leadership.

Primary

Responsibilities Instruction
  • Teach two sections of 7th Grade Music each instructional day.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons.
  • Introduce students to music theory, rhythm, notation, instrumental performance, and music appreciation.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment.
Band Program
  • Organize and lead band rehearsals one to two times per week
    , with the rehearsal schedule determined by the teacher in collaboration with school leadership.
  • Prepare students for school performances and community events.
  • Assist with selecting music and organizing performances throughout the school year.
  • Foster student commitment and enthusiasm for participation in band.
Student Engagement
  • Build meaningful relationships with students.
  • Encourage student creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
  • Communicate student progress with families as needed.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Attend required staff meetings, professional development, and school events related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school leadership.
  • Perform other music-related duties reasonably assigned by administration.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent professional experience in Education, Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
  • Ability to teach beginning instrumental music.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching music to middle school-aged students.
  • Experience directing beginning band programs.
  • Experience working in charter schools or Title I schools.
Schedule

The contractor will provide services that include:

  • Teaching two daily sections of 7th Grade Music
  • Conducting 1–2 after-school band rehearsals each week
  • Participation in required performances and agreed-upon school events
  • Reasonable planning and preparation necessary to fulfill contractual responsibilities

Specific rehearsal days and times will be established collaboratively with school leadership.
