PurposeThe Associate Academic Advisor provides holistic academic advising and student support for undergraduate students pursuing one or more Bridging Disciplines Programs (BDPs). The advisor assists students from application through certificate completion by providing guidance on curriculum planning, Connecting Experiences (CEs), degree progress, registration, university policies, and academic success strategies.
The position also contributes to student engagement, recruitment, programming, outreach, and operational support for BDP initiatives while collaborating with faculty, colleges, and campus partners.
Responsibilities Academic Advising- Advise prospective, current, and returning BDP students through individual appointments, drop‑in advising, email, phone, and virtual meetings.
- Guide students in developing individualized academic plans integrating BDP certificates with major degree requirements.
- Interpret university, college, and BDP academic policies.
- Review degree progress and monitor student completion requirements.
- Assist students in experiencing academic challenges and refer them to appropriate campus resources.
- Maintain accurate advising records using university systems.
- Review BDP applications for completeness and eligibility.
- Evaluate student progress toward certificate completion.
- Review and approve Connecting Experiences (CEs) using established program guidelines.
- Process petitions, exceptions, substitutions, and other student requests.
- Conduct routine audits of student records and communicate outstanding requirements.
- Assist students during registration periods.
- Manage seat requests and enrollment permissions when applicable.
- Answer registration‑related inquiries.
- Coordinate with departmental contacts regarding enrollment issues.
- Assist in planning and implementing orientation sessions, information sessions, workshops, coffee chats, student networking events, poster sessions, and certificate recognition ceremonies.
- Support student communications regarding deadlines, events, and opportunities.
- Represent BDP at recruitment events.
- Participate in tabling activities.
- Deliver presentations for prospective students.
- Collaborate with campus partners to promote BDP opportunities.
- Assist with marketing initiatives.
- Maintain advising documentation and procedures.
- Compile student data and reports.
- Assist with assessment activities.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
- Support implementation of new initiatives and process improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience advising students in higher education or providing student services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse populations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems.
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field.
- Experience advising undergraduate students.
- Knowledge of UT Austin academic policies and procedures.
- Experience using university student information systems.
- Experience planning student programs or events.
- Experience reviewing academic records or degree audits.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary academic programs.
$49,800 + depending on qualifications
