    General Description

    Austin Waldorf School is seeking a warm, nurturing, and enthusiastic Part-Time Rainbow Garden Teacher to join our Early Childhood faculty. Rainbow Garden is our mixed-age prekindergarten classroom, serving children approximately 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 years of age as they prepare for the transition to kindergarten. We are seeking an educator who delights in young children and is committed to creating a peaceful, rhythmical environment where wonder, imagination, and joyful play can flourish.

    Qualifications
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children.
  • A deep appreciation for the developmental needs of young children and the importance of play-based learning.
  • Warm, calm, and confident classroom presence.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to building positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Waldorf Early Childhood teaching experience or training is preferred, though candidates with a sincere interest in Waldorf education are encouraged to apply.
  • Incumbent must be authorized to work legally in the U.S., as AWS is unable to sponsor an applicant/employee.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Training or enrollment in a recognized Waldorf training program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification).

    Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Foster a warm, loving classroom atmosphere where every child feels safe, seen, and valued.
  • Carry the daily rhythm of the classroom with consistency, reverence, and joy.
  • Lead children in songs, finger plays, seasonal verses, storytelling, circle activities, handwork, practical life activities, and artistic experiences.
  • Support long periods of imaginative indoor and outdoor play.
  • Help prepare and maintain a beautiful, orderly classroom that reflects Waldorf principles.
  • Observe children's social, emotional, and developmental growth and communicate appropriately with families and colleagues.
  • Collaborate closely with the Early Childhood faculty and participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as appropriate.

  • Physical and Mental Requirements

    The Teacher must meet the following mental and physical requirements safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • The ability to learn, understand, remember, and communicate effectively information about the job.
  • The ability to understand the meaning of and use and speak words understandably and effectively in English.
  • Good hearing and listening abilities, that is, the Teacher must be able to hear spoken words from co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Good motor coordination skills, that is, the ability to coordinate his or her eyes, hands and fingers rapidly and accurately in order to handle precise movements such as typing.
  • Make and use repetitive hand motions over an extended period, as when typing.
  • Work effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  • Must be able to lift or move objects weighing as much as 40 pounds.
  • Some of the physical activities required of the Teacher include but are not limited to sitting, remaining upright for extended periods, standing, walking and moving rapidly on uneven ground, bending, lifting and moving objects up to 40 pounds, pushing or pulling, reaching, grasping, and moving within and without the classroom environment.
