Participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising services for Fine Arts Student Affairs, working primarily with Department of Theatre and Dance students.

• ROUTINE ACADEMIC ADVISING:
  Serve as primary advisor to a caseload of students majoring in Theatre and Dance. Establish rapport, provide support, and assist students in navigating the university. Provide information about degree requirements, academic policies, and institutional rules. Follow departmental guidelines and policies. Make appropriate referrals to other offices and programs.
• DEVELOPMENTAL ADVISING:
  Assist students in identifying and pursuing educational, life, and career goals. Help students to identify and mitigate barriers to academic success. Counsel students in distress. Stimulate student behaviors that develop independence, personal well-being, and growth.
• MAJOR ENHANCEMENT:
  Coordinate major-specific student programs. Work closely with school leadership to enhance undergraduate opportunity and excellence. Apprise stakeholders of student needs. Provide essential input on curricular matters. Liaise with appropriate administrators to ensure course availability. With course scheduler, oversee course closing limits, reservations, wait lists, and prerequisite checks. Manage student petitions and memos.
• COMMUNICATION:
  Inform students of advising and other opportunities via website, electronic newsletters, and digital publications. Draft correspondence and respond to generic inquiries. Share pertinent information on Theatre and Dance with relevant staff and groups. Stay up to date on advising, college, and university initiatives. Communicate with faculty on student matters.
• TEAM ENGAGEMENT:
  Actively participate in team meetings and decision making. Support team members working with students majoring in other Fine Arts disciplines. Advance Fine Arts Student Affairs objectives and contribute to its programs (New Student Orientation, First-Year Experience, etc.).
• PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND UNIVERSITY SERVICE:
  Increase knowledge and abilities through continuing education and professional development. Serve on departmental, Academic Counselors Association, and/or Fine Arts committees. Staff student events (Commencement, Gone to Fine Arts, etc.).

• Bachelor's degree and six years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity or Master's degree in a related field and four years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word and Outlook).

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

• Experience in advising or student affairs at The University of Texas at Austin or a comparable setting.
• Familiarity with Theatre and Dance as an academic discipline.

$53,000, fixed rate.

• Five days in-office required for at least first 45 days of employment. Position is eligible for 1 remote workday per week based of performance and manager approval.
• Prolonged screen time.
• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
• Use of manual dexterity.

• Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, occasional night and weekends for student-facing events (e.g., orientation).

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Staff who are promotion/transfer eligible may apply for positions without supervisor approval.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
