POSITION

PURPOSE:

The Employer Outreach and Alumni Specialist supports American Youth Works’ Conservation Corps by strengthening recruitment, member engagement, alumni connections, and post-service career-pathway efforts. This position helps build consistent outreach systems, engages current and former participants as ambassadors and peer connectors, supports alumni tracking and communication, and helps participants translate their service experience into career, education, and continued service opportunities. The Employer Outreach and Alumni Specialist works closely with Conservation Corps program staff, participant support staff, strategic partnerships staff, communications, and external partners to create stronger connections between outreach, member experience, alumni engagement, employer and education partnerships, and post-service outcomes, ensuring participants and alumni remain connected to AYW and have access to meaningful next-step opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and basic tasks. Under the direct supervision of the Conservation Corps Director, the Employer Outreach and Alumni Specialist will perform the following functions:

  • Employer Outreach and Recruitment Support
    • Support outreach and recruitment efforts for Conservation Corps programs across assigned regions or operating sites.
    • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, workforce partners, public agencies, youth-serving organizations, and other referral partners.
    • Represent AYW at outreach events, career fairs, community meetings, partner events, and recruitment activities.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining culturally responsive, accessible, and youth-centered outreach materials.
    • Coordinate with program staff to understand upcoming crew needs, recruitment priorities, eligibility requirements, and service term timelines.
    • Help identify underrepresented or underserved populations and recommend outreach strategies to improve access and participation.
    • Support current participants and alumni in serving as peer ambassadors for recruitment and outreach activities.
    • Track outreach activities, referral sources, event contacts, and recruitment outcomes.
  • Alumni Engagement and Communication
    • Develop and maintain consistent communication with Conservation Corps alumni through email, phone, text, surveys, events, newsletters, and other approved communication methods.
    • Support the development of an alumni engagement structure, including alumni contact lists, outreach calendars, alumni spotlights, peer mentor opportunities, and alumni events.
    • Identify alumni who may be willing to serve as mentors, guest speakers, recruitment ambassadors, employer connectors, or advisory group participants.
    • Coordinate alumni participation in outreach events, employer panels, member trainings, and career exploration activities.
    • Work with communications staff to collect alumni stories, career pathway examples, photos, testimonials, and impact narratives.
    • Help create “you served here, now here’s what’s next” messaging that keeps alumni connected to AYW after their service term.
    • Support the development of alumni feedback loops to better understand the member experience and post-service needs.
