Role Description

The Montessori Classroom Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in the Austin, Texas metropolitan area. In this position, the assistant supports the lead Montessori guide in maintaining a calm, organized, and engaging classroom environment, helping children follow routines and explore learning materials. Daily tasks include preparing and tidying the classroom, observing children and offering gentle guidance, assisting with individual and small-group activities, and supporting children with self-care and independence skills.

The assistant helps with transitions, outdoor play, snacks or meals, and implements classroom policies that promote safety, respect, and positive behavior. This role involves regular communication with the teaching team, participation in staff meetings, and ongoing professional development aligned with Montessori principles.

Qualifications
  • Understanding of child development and early childhood education practices, ideally within a Montessori or child-led learning environment.
  • Strong classroom support skills, including maintaining an orderly space, assisting with materials, and helping facilitate calm, respectful interactions.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with educators, supporting families, and engaging with children in a kind, clear, and patient manner.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and caring environment, including close supervision, adherence to health and safety guidelines, and responsive care for children’s needs.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and willingness to learn, with the capacity to follow established classroom routines and guidance from the lead teacher.
  • Prior experience working with young children in a classroom or childcare setting is preferred;
    Montessori training or certification is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is beneficial.
  • Capability to meet physical demands of the role, including standing, sitting on the floor, lifting light classroom materials, and active engagement with children.
