The In-person Tutor / Mentor will provide individualized academic support and mentorship to students in the Austin, TX area, meeting learners on-site at agreed-upon locations such as homes or community spaces. Responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging lessons, reinforcing classroom material, supporting homework and test preparation, and tracking student progress. The role also involves communicating with parents or guardians about goals, schedules, and performance, while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
This is a contract role, and tutors manage their own availability within Luminescent’s scheduling framework.
- Demonstrated ability to explain academic concepts clearly and adapt instruction to different learning styles.
- Strong mentorship and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building students’ confidence, motivation, and study habits.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with families and, when needed, coordinating with teachers or other professionals.
- Reliable time management and organizational skills, including punctuality, lesson planning, and consistent follow-through on commitments.
- Experience in tutoring, teaching, coaching, or youth guidance; familiarity with K–12 curricula and common standardized tests is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in Austin, TX, with access to reliable transportation to visit students at designated locations.
- Commitment to a safe, inclusive, and non-discriminatory learning environment; background checks may be required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is preferred but not required; relevant experience is highly valued.
