Summary:
Provide engaging, innovative college-readiness instruction aligned with the GED® (General Education Development) test to help prepare students for the GED in Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. Responsible to prepare and deliver coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all. Instruction may be delivered in person at designated ACC regions—Central, North, and South campuses—and online, as assigned.
Faculty must meet all professional standards in accordance with college policies and procedures.
Austin Community College’s High School Equivalency (HSE/GED®) program provides academic classes designed to prepare adult learners to pass their GED exams and earn a state-recognized credential. The program covers core test subjects—Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies—while integrating direct pathways to higher education and workforce training. Instructors focus on building academic confidence and practical skills, equipping students with the tools needed for long-term career advancement and post-secondary success.
PrincipalResponsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and teach GED-aligned Math and/or Language Arts courses for a multicultural student population, aligned with approved learning outcomes.
- Design, review, and refine comprehensive HSE/GED curricula including goal-setting, collaborating with and supporting and mentoring colleagues in effective implementation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current practices and make data-driven adjustments to foster student success.
- Guide and support students through the experience.
- Support GED Ready and other GED related events as needed.
- Apply best practices in classroom and online management to promote accessibility, engagement, and retention.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review/revision, program review, and course/program-level learning outcome assessments.
