Job Description Summary

To provide specialized services and support to departmental office or program.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Acts as a reader and/or scribe, including note‑taking before, after, or in class, lab, or testing environments.
  • Attends class/lab with the student.
  • Facilitates computer and technology access as appropriate.
  • May assist with access to technology as appropriate.
  • May describe graphics or pictures in the classroom, lab, or testing environment.
  • May assist student with object manipulation during laboratory classes as needed.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries with student as set by supervisor.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Must act in a professional manner and be dependable.
  • Must maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
  • Willingness to work closely with students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency with accessible software and devices.
  • May require completion of assigned college-level classes as determined by the academic department.
  • Knowledge:
    Processes and procedures related to the departmental work being done.
  • Skills:

    Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communication skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work‑related information and materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Technology

    Skills:

    Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and student information and database systems.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Work is routinely performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Safety:
    Work safely and follow safety rules.
  • Report unsafe working conditions and behavior.
  • Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
