- **** Job Details:**## Purpose Lead and coordinate all activities for Academic Advising Team
3. Supervise advisors, advise undergraduate students, and act as a liaison to facilitate collaboration between Student Affairs and the academic departments the Team works with; the Academic Advising Coordinator serves as the primary liaison to the Department of Government.## Responsibilities
* ADVISING TEAM COORDINATION:
Provide comprehensive leadership to and supervision of an academic advising team. Hire, evaluate, and foster development of staff. Monitor and assist in new advisor training and continuing education of staff. Take ownership for team efficacy and efficiency. Coordinate academic advising services for undergraduates among advisors on the team and with academic department/s the team is embedded with. Serve as a lead advisor for academic department/s the team is embedded with.
Liaise with Liberal Arts Student Affairs administration on human resources, budgetary, and other matters. In collaboration with COLA advising leadership, create, develop, and implement college-wide advising policies and procedures that contribute to the quality of advising in the college and success of the students we serve. Complete special projects as assigned by the Director of Advising and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
* DEPARTMENT
COLLABORATION:
Provide essential input on curriculum matters and communicate with faculty leadership, course scheduling staff, and degree audit staff. Liaise with appropriate unit administrators to ensure course access and availability for undergraduate students for all academic credentials offered. Act as a liaison between students and department faculty, advise department faculty of policies and resources related to student support and academic concerns. In collaboration with unit staff and faculty, initiate and/or enhance unit-specific or joint programs, projects, organizations, or other co-curricular opportunities.
* DEVELOPMENTAL ADVISING:
Help students identify and pursue educational, life, and career goals. Work with students to develop a plan to timely graduation incorporating course selection, co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities, and university programs and services tailored to meet their academic/career interests. Work with students experiencing academic difficulty to identify barriers to academic success and strategize action steps, tools, and resources to address. Create SUCCESS Agreements with students.
Encourage student behaviors that develop independence, problem-solving skills, personal well-being, and growth. Make appropriate referrals to department, College, University offices and resources.
* NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION:
Participate in the College of Liberal Arts New Student Orientation activities as assigned. Develop educational materials/advising aids for the department. Advise incoming first year and transfer students at spring, summer, fall, and August orientation. Review student records, educate on resources, tools, course selections, and academic options. Provide registration support to students as they enroll in classes for their first semester at UT Austin.
