Early Childhood Substitute Teacher (Pre-K3) – North Austin, TXLocation: Harmony Public Schools in North Austin, TX, plus schools across the Austin area

OverviewEarn $144–$160 a day, with same-day pay available, supporting Pre-K3 classrooms at Harmony Public Schools in North Austin, plus more preschool and child care assignments across the Austin area. Pick up day-to-day Teacher Assistant assignments, or choose long-term assignments starting in January, including Lead Teacher assignments.
Whether you’re bringing experience from a daycare, child care center, or district classroom, or you’re newer to the field, the heart of it is the same: helping 3-year-olds feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn.
What You’ll Do- Support the classroom: Help the Lead Teacher with circle time, centers, meals, naps, and outdoor play.
- Care routines: Assist with diapering, pull-ups, toileting, and handwashing.
- Keep everyone safe: Stay with your group so the room stays in ratio, and follow health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Lead the room (Lead Teacher assignments): Plan and run activities that build early language, literacy, math, and social skills, and coordinate with Teacher Assistants in the room.
- Close the loop: Sign in on site and leave notes for the classroom teacher on how the day went.
- Age: 18 or older.
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
- Clearances: Background check and fingerprinting, with clearance documents ready before your first assignment.
- Training: CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to complete it), plus required child care pre-service training, provided online after onboarding.
- Transportation: A reliable way to get to North Austin and nearby schools each day.
- Physical: Able to lift and carry little ones and spend time on the floor.
- CDA credential: A Child Development Associate credential earns a higher daily rate.
- Experience: Daycare, child care center, preschool, or Pre‑K experience.
- Lead experience: Prior lead teacher experience (for Lead Teacher assignments).
- Days and hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00am start, about 4–8 hours a day.
- Flexibility: Choose day-to-day or long-term assignments.
- Day one: Check in on arrival to learn your classroom’s routines.
- Earn: $144–$152 per day as a Teacher Assistant (higher rate with a CDA) and $160 per day for Lead Teacher assignments.
