Purpose:
This grant‑funded position will work on air quality measurement studies in the laboratory and field, with project management and mentorship responsibilities.
- Ambient measurements – conduct campaigns using stationary and mobile platforms; facilitate planning and data analysis (requires Texas driver’s license; approx. 2 weeks travel every 2–3 months).
- Communication – prepare scientific papers and reports; present results to collaborators, sponsors, and conferences; communicate to non‑technical audiences.
- Laboratory chamber experiments – design and run experiments, lead data analysis.
- Project Management – propose, plan, schedule, coordinate, and report phases of projects; lead cross‑institutional collaborations.
- Mentorship – train and supervise students, post‑docs, and staff; conduct regular meetings and track progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
- Proficiency with advanced mass spectrometric instrumentation (chemical ionization or aerosol mass spectrometers).
- Experience in quantitative analysis and data interpretation with these instruments.
- Proficiency in Igor Pro for mass‑spectrometric data analysis.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Valid Texas driver’s license (required for mobile measurements).
- Post‑doctoral research experience.
- Mentoring experience.
- Fieldwork experience.
- Statistical modeling, data analysis, and programming (Python, MATLAB, R).
- GIS experience (ArcGIS).
Class C operator’s driver’s license required. Provide a current three‑year driving record; non‑Texas residents must obtain a Texas license within 30 days of becoming a resident. CDL employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Salary and BenefitsSalary: $80,000+ depending on qualifications. Benefits include health, vision, dental, life, disability insurance; paid vacation; retirement participation (TRS or ORP); tuition assistance; and free access to UT Austin resources.
