Job Description
Onsite:
This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC on a full-time basis.
We are seeking a Tire Testing R&D Leader to support GM Motorsports Tire Modeling by providing robust data sets to the Tire Modeling R&D group to enable developing and integrating tire models with simulation (real-time and off-line). The Tire Testing R&D Leader will have vehicle dynamic handling or performance testing experience including data acquisition and testing methodologies. The ideal candidate will have a background in tire flat-trac, vehicle track testing, wheel force transducer testing, lab-based tire testing, K&C test rig test operation, DiL simulation, race events, and other applicable data to improve tire performance.
You will lead a small team of engineers to support the collection of information from sources inside and outside GM, characterize tire models and interpret results for GM Motorsports. As the team leader, you will attend Motorsports testing across the country, cooperate with GM affiliated Motorsports teams, and enable the transfer of knowledge from motorsports to GM Production. In this constantly evolving environment, the team works with innovative testing and analytical technologies to review tire force and moment (F&M) properties to virtually integrate tire performance to enable vehicle dynamics simulations for original equipment applications as well.
Joining the GM Motorsports Organization will provide you with the experience and exposure it takes to build and maintain successful race teams and the opportunity to showcase your vehicle dynamics and testing skills, contribute to innovation, connect lessons learned in racing to production intent vehicles, work cross functionally with our partners and ultimately, help shape the future of Motorsports!
What You’ll Do:Carry out methods and lead the GM Motorsports Tire Testing R&D group to process, review, and qualify tire test data; F&M Flat-Trac, Wheel Force Transducer (WFT), and lab testing for tire modeling.
Coordinate with Tire Modeling R&D and Team Support Engineers to develop extensive enhancements to advance tire models, tools, and methods.
Enable tire technology transfer.
Domestic travel is required and expected 1-2x/month for 2-4 days in duration; tire testing occurs during the week - limited weekend travel may be required to arrive to the test facility.
