Position Summary:The Roadway Design Engineer, EIT supports the design and delivery of roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation projects. This role contributes to technical design tasks, modeling, analysis, and field coordination in support of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions.
Essential Job Functions:- Support the design of highways, arterials, local roadways, shared‑use paths, and other multimodal improvements.
- Develop roadway, signing, pavement marking, traffic signal, drainage, and traffic control plans.
- Perform roadway 3D modeling using applicable design software.
- Prepare quantity calculations and cost estimates.
- Conduct site visits to support data collection and the design process.
- Prepare alternative evaluation studies, technical memoranda, and similar reports.
- Collaborate with project teams and technical specialists to support project delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (transportation focus preferred).
- Entry‑level experience, up to two (2) years.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or intent to pursue Professional Engineer licensure.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to travel periodically (approximately 15% or more).
- Coursework related to transportation engineering.
- Experience with Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
- Internship or consulting experience in transportation or roadway design.
- Ability to perform occasional fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or in the field.
- Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Combination of office and outdoor fieldwork environments.
- Exposure to variable weather conditions during site visits.
- Moderate noise levels typical of office and construction‑adjacent settings.
