We are seeking a Senior Highway Engineering Leader to lead and expand a roadway design practice in Central Texas. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced highway engineer with TxDOT expertise, strong technical judgment, and the ability to guide teams in delivering complex transportation projects.
Austin is a focal point for major infrastructure investment, and this role is central to that growth. You will provide technical leadership, oversee complex corridor-level roadway projects, mentor engineers, and serve as a trusted partner to TxDOT and regional stakeholders.
The Opportunity
You will join the team during a pivotal delivery window, supporting and leading high-profile Texas transportation initiatives, including large urban corridors, express lane facilities, and major interchange projects. The role combines technical oversight with project leadership, staff development, and client coordination.
What You'll Do
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex highway and roadway projects for TxDOT and regional transportation agencies
- Serve as a senior technical authority and, as appropriate, Engineer of Record
- Review and guide alignments, geometric design, and PS&E packages for safety, constructability, and DOT compliance
- Manage scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables across multiple assignments
- Navigate TxDOT district reviews and coordinate with agency partners
- Mentor and develop engineers and designers, serving as a final technical reviewer on sealed plans
- Collaborate with bridge, traffic, and other disciplines to support corridor-level solutions
- Support business development through proposals, technical input, and client engagement
- Contribute to the strategic growth and direction of the roadway practice in Texas
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas
- 15+ years of progressive experience in highway and roadway engineering
- Extensive experience delivering TxDOT roadway projects, including major corridor work
- Strong knowledge of the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual, PS&E development, and standard specifications
- Proven experience leading teams, managing budgets, and mentoring junior engineers
- Advanced proficiency with roadway design software, including Open Roads Designer and Micro Station
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, reviewers, and multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Experience
- Engineer of Record experience on major roadway facilities
- Familiarity with alternative delivery methods such as Design‑Build or CMGC
- Experience working across TxDOT districts such as Austin, San Antonio, or DFW
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role with significant influence over project delivery, team development, and regional growth. You will work on infrastructure that shapes the future of Central Texas while guiding a roadway team within a stable transportation practice.
Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package are offered, including flexible work options and potential relocation support for qualified candidates.
