Overview

Amazon has built one of the most sophisticated supply chains worldwide. As an Operations Engineer, you will lead and manage the lifecycle of challenging cross‑functional projects, developing and delivering next‑generation sortation and distribution solutions. You will be a customer‑obsessed leader, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to plan and implement facility network infrastructure, including new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives.

This role requires 75% regional travel on a yearly basis. Availability to work from a corporate office is required. Candidates should live near or be willing to relocate within reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work independently with internal and external teams to manage the lifecycle of challenging projects, owning delivery of project objectives and targets.
  • Actively participate in engineering reviews, making a tangible impact on proposed solutions, system architecture, and facility processes.
  • Partner with internal teams, stakeholders and external vendors to set project priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines. Proactively assess stakeholder dependencies and milestones, problem‑solve and drive solutions to mitigate impacts.
  • Lead and coordinate all execution efforts in delivering systems and automated equipment designs per established standards and guidelines. Perform equipment/system installation, throughput and safety qualifications. Simplify, optimize, remove bottlenecks and provide feedback while resolving difficult system problems or technical deficiencies.
  • Lead effective meetings by setting objectives, facilitating detailed business and technical discussions/alignment, and documenting decisions and future steps.
  • Promptly and accurately communicate project status, risk analysis, and risk mitigation plans. Regularly produce clear and concise summaries for leadership/management team.
  • Efficiently manage change order controls, purchase orders, and invoice validation/approvals. Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that improve engineering and cross‑team efficiencies, optimizing the team’s value and delivery.
Typical Day

You manage one or multiple projects varying in scope, complexity and duration. Daily tasks include site coordination with operations teams and contractors on project execution activities, deep‑dive project progress and resource evaluation, driving resolutions, facilitating planning meetings with stakeholders, capturing and publishing detailed meeting notes, reviewing and approving sorters system functional specifications, performing system installation quality, safety, throughput and performance qualifications, and supporting or training other engineering team members.

The OE Execution Team delivers automation infrastructure projects related to material handling, storage, processing, and delivery of products to retrofits and new builds throughout North America. The team works daily with smart, fast and collaborative engineers and managers to ensure internal customers have the capabilities to deliver on the Customer Promise.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial, manufacturing or related engineering
  • 4+ years of experience as an industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer or project engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with material handling equipment (MHE)
  • Knowledge of automated material handling systems, packaging technologies and storage solutions
  • Intermediate knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA and SQL
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering, management, or technology
  • Experience managing third‑party vendors
  • Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and MS Project)
