The OpportunityWe are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineering Leader (15–16+ years) to help lead, grow, and shape a traffic engineering practice serving Central Texas and the broader Texas Triangle

Regional Project Focus (Central Texas)Central Texas transportation projects are large-scale, multi-year, and politically visible
, requiring senior leadership with an understanding of TxDOT delivery, phasing, and stakeholder coordination.
The Senior Traffic Engineering Leader will support or lead work related to:
- Major corridor reconstruction and expansion projects
- Complex interchange and intersection operations
- Multimodal mobility and safety initiatives
- Traffic operations and construction-phase traffic management
- Coordination with TxDOT districts, municipalities, and regional planning organizations
This role significantly influences traffic engineering decisions on high-impact projects delivering through 2026 and beyond

This role is based in Austin, TX
, with flexibility for candidates located in or willing to relocate to the Greater Austin region, including:
- Austin
- Cedar Park
- Georgetown
Candidates in Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, or San Antonio may also be considered if they are open to relocation or regular presence in the Austin market.
What You'll Do- Serve as a senior technical and client-facing lead on TxDOT and municipal projects
- Lead traffic operations, safety, and mobility studies for public-sector clients
- Oversee traffic analysis, modeling, and operational evaluations for intersections, corridors, and interchanges
- Guide the design of traffic control devices, including signals, signage, pavement markings, lighting, and work zone traffic control
- Apply TxDOT standards, TMUTCD, MUTCD, AASHTO, Highway Capacity Manual, and Highway Safety Manual
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, staffing, and QA/QC
- Mentor and develop traffic engineering staff at various levels
- Support proposal development, interviews, and long-term client relationships
- Contribute to practice planning, workload forecasting, and resource development
Education & Licensure
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Texas PE strongly preferred
- PE in another U.S. state acceptable, with the ability and willingness to obtain Texas licensure by comity
- Experience
- 15–16+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering, traffic operations, or transportation systems
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects for TxDOT and/or Texas municipalities or counties
- Proven ability to lead teams, guide projects, and collaborate with agency partners
- Technical Expertise
- Strong working knowledge of TxDOT policies, procedures, and project delivery processes
- Deep understanding of MUTCD, TMUTCD, AASHTO, Highway Capacity Manual, and Highway Safety Manual
- Experience with traffic modeling and analysis tools such as HCS, Synchro, Sim Traffic, VISSIM, or Trans Modeler
- Familiarity with Micro Station and/or Open Roads (AutoCAD acceptable depending on background)
- Preferred Experience
- Direct experience working with TxDOT districts in Central Texas or other major Texas metros
- Experience supporting corridor reconstruction, interchange improvements, or high-volume arterial projects
- Involvement in proposal strategy, interviews, or client relationship management
- Experience hiring, mentoring, or leading traffic engineering teams
- Licensure by comity is supported for qualified candidates
- Candidates must be willing to pursue Texas PE licensure if not already licensed
