Your impactParticipate in planning, budgeting, and delivering traffic engineering projects including traffic operational analysis, traffic microsimulation models, roadway design, signal design, ITS design, signing and marking, and/or construction traffic control plans, etc. Work closely with other members of the Traffic Engineering team as well as other groups in meeting changing project needs. This position involves advanced technical responsibilities in the field of transportation engineering, with a focus on travel demand modeling, big data analytics, and traffic operation analysis.
Develop, calibrate, and maintain regional and statewide Travel Demand Models in collaboration with Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Departments of Transportation (DOTs). Lead and support freight modeling, big data analytics, and automation of modeling workflows to enhance transportation planning and decision‑making processes. Conduct Traffic Impact Studies, Corridor Analyses, and Traffic Simulation using tools such as VISSIM, Synchro, Sim Traffic, and HCS.
Assist in the development of Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) strategic plans and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Architectures. Utilize programming languages such as Python, R, and C++ to process transportation data, automate model tasks, and develop performance metrics. Apply GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data analysis and mapping in support of transportation studies. Create data visualizations and dashboards using Tableau and Omni Sci to communicate findings to stakeholders.
Serve as a task lead, managing project components, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring timely and high‑quality deliverables. Work with a diverse client base, including public agencies and private sector partners, to address a wide range of transportation engineering challenges.

Here’s what you’ll needRequirements:
- Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related field and 4 years of work experience in the job offered or related Highway Engineering occupation.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related field and 6 years of work experience in the job offered or related Highway Engineering occupation.
- Ability to interpret traffic data, perform operational analysis, microsimulation models, civil design and safety studies.
- Software like AutoCAD, Micro Station, Openroads, traffic simulation software such as Synchro, Vissim.
- Travel Demand Modeling software like Trans
CAD, Visum. - Ability to develop solutions to complex problems requiring a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.
- Conducting comprehensive research in transit systems, traffic patterns, operations, and safety.
- Programming languages such as Python, R, and C++.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License in Texas or ability to obtain it within 3 months of hire.
