As a Product Development Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Assuming technical leadership on NPI (New Product Introduction) and NTI (New Technology Introduction) initiatives
- Formulating, developing and characterizing materials for cable accessory applications.
- Engaging on raw material qualifications for existing products Designing and launching new products from prototype development over feasibility demonstration to commercial scale-up.
- Interfacing with cross‑functional team members (marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, technical service, quality, regulatory, etc) to ensure successful program delivery.
- Generating intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets. Leading technical interactions with corporate, group and division labs to identify new technologies, processes and materials to be applied to the Energy Markets
- Developing and commercializing products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university
- Three (3) years of product development, engineering or technical service in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Experience with silicone, EPDM and similar rubbers, rubber formulations and production processes.
- Experience with analytical methods for materials characterization.
- Experience with rubber compounding and related processes.
- Knowledge of high or medium voltage electrical systems
- Experience with industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE, CENELEC,…).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, attention and customer first mindset.
- Interest in practical work, prototyping, simulating, testing, and validation of designs
- Eagerness to learn and willingness to start on new topics

This role follows an on‑site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Austin, TX. - Travel:

The expected compensation range for this position is $141,150 – $172,517, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible.
