J.J. Pickle Research Campus, North Austin.
Hours:
40 per week (Exempt, FLSA).
Start date:
Immediately. Duration:
Expected to continue until August 1, 2024.
- Provide novel research on geomechanical and pore‑pressure models linking human operations to seismicity rates, modeling nucleation and evolution of seismicity. Use earthquake and hydrogeological data, stress‑change models, etc.
- Contribute to collaborative modeling of stress changes in the subsurface due to geo‑energy operations, validating causal factors. Integrate results into a regional time‑dependent seismic hazard model for risk mitigation.
- Present in meetings and conferences.
- Publish in peer‑review journals.
PhD in engineering, seismology, or geophysics, received within 3 years of hire. Prior research experience with geophysical/geomechanical modeling, hypothesis testing, earthquake catalogs, and stress evolution processes. Proficient in programming (Matlab, Python).
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of subsurface pore‑pressure modeling, earthquake nucleation processes, fault rupture propagation, and seismic hazard modeling.
Salary$70,000 + depending on qualifications.
Working Conditions- Standard office conditions with repetitive keyboard use.
