Overview
Job Title: CAD Technician
Location: Austin, TX - must be local and onsite 5 days per week
Duration: 12 month contract
Compensation: $30 - $34 / HR
Work schedule: Monday-Friday (8 AM-5PM CST) - onsite 5x per week

The CAD Technician supports our utility client by producing accurate construction drawings, system maps, and 3D models using AutoCAD Civil 3D. The role converts engineer markups, survey data, and developer civil files into buildable designs for new construction and system upgrades. This position works closely with engineers, field staff, survey teams, and developers to ensure all drawings meet company, regulatory, and public right‑of‑way (ROW) standards.
Responsibilities- Create and update design drawings: plan/profile sheets, subdivision and commercial layouts, internal building layouts, and public ROW plans.
- Incorporate survey, GIS, SUE, and ROW constraints into designs.
- Convert engineer redlines into final drawings.
- Format developer civil files to internal CAD standards.
- Produce permit exhibits, construction details, clearances, and client profiles.
- Import and manage survey, surface, alignment, and pipe network data.
- Maintain surfaces, alignments, pressure system layers, and organized project files.
- Coordinate with engineers, PMs, surveyors, construction teams, and developers.
- Resolve design issues and ensure constructability.
- Interpret civil/site plans and utility information.
- Ensure designs comply with company CAD standards, municipal/DOT requirements, and client-specific regulations.
- Maintain documentation for engineering and regulatory needs.
- Support CAD template libraries, detail maintenance, plotting, digital submittals, and permitting packages.
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or CAD/drafting certificate.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (alignments, surfaces, profiles, pipe networks, sheet sets).
- Ability to read civil plans, plats, easements, and survey data.
- Experience with underground utility design (gas, water, telecom, etc.).
- Strong detail orientation and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience with gas utility or civil engineering drafting.
- Knowledge of SUE, public ROW standards, permitting, GIS integration, and land development projects.
- Understanding of natural gas materials and construction methods.
