Job Overview

As the Senior Manager of Hardware Design Engineering (Thermal), you will lead a world‑class team in developing cutting‑edge cooling solutions for AI servers, switches, and accelerators. You will partner with cross‑functional architects to define best‑in‑class products while pushing the boundaries of thermal technology. You’ll leverage your expertise in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and 3D simulation to transition concepts from initial schematics through rigorous testing and full‑scale manufacturing.

By integrating feedback from supply chain and reliability experts, you’ll ensure our high‑performance systems are as robust as they are innovative.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains.
  • Take responsibility for non‑technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials, etc.).
  • Review and interpret customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contract.
  • Analyze trade‑offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develop deployment strategies and plans.
  • Lead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site‑wide deployment efforts.
  • Manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
  • Research systems ideas and produce plans.
  • Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
  • Create designs in line with Celestica’s procedures, regulations and customer standards.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Resolve complex problems and act as liaison with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
  • Recommend system modifications.
  • Set yearly plans and goals for the department, give direction on expected performance, provide regular evaluations and ongoing feedback. Accountable for all department objectives and achieving agreed targets for key performance indicators.
  • Analyze and interpret data and information.
  • Calculate factors such as tolerance, dimensions, and thermal and structural analysis.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Strong user of Fluent as CFD analysis tool. Transient analysis experience is a plus.
  • Expertise in heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers, liquid cooling, or other advanced cooling technology is a plus.
  • In‑depth experience in fan‑speed control methodology and over‑temperature protection mechanism.
  • Expert with thermal measurement technology and test tools (temperature data logger, IR camera, wind tunnel, air‑speed meter, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical design tool such as Pro/Engineer, considered a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of server/storage/switch system architecture is a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of industry standards including SBB, NEBS, GR‑63, ASHRAE TC9.9, etc.
Physical Demands
  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment.
  • May require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (data entry, computer mouse, calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
  • 10+ years of experience with thermal design and simulation.
  • Requires 4+ years of managerial/leadership experience.
  • Highly self‑motivated with a strong multi‑disciplinary background.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful track record bringing products to market.
Typical Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred but not required:
    Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.
