Architectural Designer

Sentech Architectural Systems is an Austin-based specialty structural glass design, engineering and manufacturing company that serves the needs of progressive architecture and building industry professionals on some of the most unique and challenging structural glass projects in the world.

We are currently looking to expand our engineering and design department, and are looking for an designer with expertise in AutoCAD, and ideally with some experience with Inventor, Creo or Solidworks. This role is responsible for preparing detailed drawings (assembly, fabrication, approval) and 3D models used for client approval, fabrication, assembly and installation of our specialty structural glass systems using structural specifications, engineering calculations, sketches and design information according to project standards and procedures.

The projects you work on will be unique, and you will typically be responsible for several projects at a time. This role must ensure a complete and timely production of drawing packages and documentation related to design, and will become familiar with work processes for their department.

Manufacturing and/or fabrication experience is preferred.

Our work environment is dynamic and challenging, and this position offers the opportunity to manage the design of structural glass projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This role will work closely with our head of engineering and design, and requires direct communication and coordination with our structural/civil engineers, manufacturing/shop teams, clients and on-site installation crews. You should be a self-motivated professional with 5-10 years of progressive experience.

This is a full-time, onsite position with ample room for learning, development and professional growth for those who demonstrate the desire and ability to work hard, adapt and learn the complexities involved in the structural glass industry and custom fabrication. Please note that this is NOT an entry-level position, and confirm you have the required skills before applying.

Responsibilities:

• Preparing detailed 2D approval drawing sets in AutoCAD for client review
• Preparing 3D models using Creo for client approval, shop fabrication drawings (design of complex fabrication assemblies) and installation of specialty structural glass projects
• Reviewing structural specifications, engineering calculations, sketches and design information to create drawings and models
• Complete, accurate and timely production of drawing packages and documentation related to design
• Familiarizing yourself with project standards, procedures and work processes for the engineering and design department
• Communication and coordination with management, engineers, manufacturing/shop teams, materials management, clients and on-site installation crews
• Learning the complexities involved in the structural glass industry and custom fabrication

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience creating models of complex assemblies using Creo, Inventor, or Solidworks
• 3D modeling skills and design of assemblies is preferred (not just small componentry)
• Bachelors degree in Construction, Engineering, Architecture or an applicable discipline
• Knowledge of Project Management tools and technologies
