Position InformationInterested in Traffic Safety, Policy, and Standards? We are looking for a Transportation Engineer with Traffic Engineering experience to perform work in one or more functional areas such as, safety reviews, safety project development and design, traffic engineering construction, Work Zone Traffic Control Evaluations, transportation/traffic operations, traffic studies. This employee would ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
This work may require contact with government officials and private entities. The ideal candidate has experience in traffic safety and a deep interest in the safety of fellow Texans, community, and economic development.

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, construction, transportation/traffic operations. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervised and assume direct accountability for the work product.
- Acts as a liaison with divisions, MPOs, cities, counties and other governmental entities concerning traffic management.
- Assists district and division personnel with statewide Emergency Operations Center (EOC) monitoring.
- Develops traffic engineering and traffic management system policies, procedures and standards. Disseminates information to the public in a professional manner.
Develops training courses and/or materials.
- Performs preliminary research and gathers relevant data for assignments.
- Performs routine word processing and conducts quality checks of documents.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Reviews literature, technical data, material specifications and procedures.
- Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
- Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
- May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

* Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
