Overview
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the infrastructure that ensures customers have continual access to cloud services.
About the RoleAs a Structural Engineer, you will support the structural infrastructure strategy and drive product innovation for our growing data center footprint. You will design resilient, cost‑effective structural systems and collaborate with cross‑functional teams at AWS.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, review, and release data center structural engineering improvements and designs for next‑gen data centers.
- Provide feedback into Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for structural engineering systems.
- Act as a technical advisor for AWS DC design projects, reviewing foundation and structural systems, evaluating superstructure design options, performing seismic studies, and assessing structural calculation assumptions.
- Create, review, and release architectural/civil/structural design RFPs.
- Manage external architectural/civil/structural design consultants.
- Coordinate with internal and external MEP/C/A design engineers.
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
- Manage multiple fast‑paced projects simultaneously.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, interface with AHJs and design consultants (anticipated travel not to exceed 25%).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of commercial, warehouse, industrial, and/or data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 2+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
- Proficiency in structural design software: CSI, Bentley Structural package, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Navisworks, Sketch Up, and MS Office Suite.
- Experience in seismic design and detailing for structural steel and reinforced concrete, and familiarity with IBC and ASCE regulations and standards.
- Professional Engineer License.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
