HDR is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Power Generation team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of a multi‑discipline team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors. Primary duties typically involve coordination with the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.
You will be supporting projects involving traditional generation technologies (fossil‑fired engines, turbines, boilers) as well as renewables (solar, wind) and energy storage.
The position will require travel for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings, and monitoring of construction. Travel is typically around 10%.
Preferred Qualifications- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity
- Ability to coordinate work with others and handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Long‑term desire and drive to be involved in leadership and/or operations positions is a plus
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Willing to work with project teams across various HDR offices nationwide
- Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
- Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget
- Ability to travel, on occasion
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- A minimum of 10 years of experience
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit)
- Attitude and commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture
