The Ops Tech Networking (OTN) Wireless team builds next‑generation connectivity infrastructure that powers Amazon's global fulfillment and operations network. The team manages wireless connectivity solutions and operations for over 2,800 sites worldwide, supporting Amazon Operations and Grocery businesses.
Key job responsibilities- Identifying, developing, and delivering technical solutions that improve the availability of our wireless network technologies.
- Understanding customer needs and creating technical solutions utilizing wireless networking technologies.
- Identifying and delivering solutions that reduce operational impact to customers and enable them with scalable, resilient, and cost‑optimized solutions.
- Diving deep on complex problems that identify root causes of our customer impacts, developing and delivering corrective actions.
- Evaluating new technologies, lab test/certify solutions, conducting proof of concepts, defining run books, and leading pilot deployments.
- Innovating and automating infrastructure testing, deployment, operations, and life cycle management.
- Defining the strategy for future team processes and tools which improve how we maintain and manage the infrastructure effectively, efficiently, and safely.
- Contributing to hiring and developing top talent at Amazon.
- Participating in the global support organization that provides 24/7 escalation support on shift rotation basis; some night and weekend support may be required.
The Ops Tech Networking organization supports multiple business units globally, from delivery stations in emerging markets to advanced automated fulfillment centers across the globe. This group works on both tactical improvements and long‑term strategic projects. The Ops Tech Networks Wireless team (OTN‑Wireless) owns designing, deploying, and operating wireless network products that enable network access and communications for all Amazon Operations (Ops) sites across the globe. This consists of 479,306 access points connecting 1.4 million customer devices. Our primary customers are Amazon Air, Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT), Amazon Logistics (AMZL), Amazon Robotics (AR), Amazon Transportation Services (ATS), Global Customer Fulfillment (GCF), Global Specialty Fulfillment (GSF), and Ops Tech Solutions (OTS).
We collaborate across IT to leverage technical resources and expertise to deliver products that delight our customers and ensure they are highly secure, available, scalable, performant and cost optimized. OTN‑Wireless is organized into 3 teams:
Product Engineering – responsible for designing and on‑boarding wireless networks, Reliability Engineering – responsible for providing high availability and end‑to‑end support for the customers, and Compliance Engineering – to support adherence to WiFi policy, automating and maintaining golden configuration and firmware compliance.
- Knowledge of Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and networking.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field; or 3+ years of hands‑on technical work experience in networking or wireless infrastructure.
- 4+ years designing, deploying, or managing enterprise wireless networks supporting concurrent devices.
- 4+ years of experience and demonstrated expertise in 802.11 protocols (a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and RF fundamentals including channel planning, power management, and interference mitigation.
- 2+ years of experience with IP networking fundamentals: packet capture analysis, DHCP, DNS, STP, BGP, SDWAN architectures.
- 1+ years coding and automating network operations using Python, C, C++, Java, Ruby, or Power Shell.
- Experience operating high‑density wireless deployments with 50+ access points per site.
- Proficiency with Ekahau or equivalent survey tools for conducting site surveys and RF modeling across facilities of 100,000+ square feet.
- Working knowledge of 802.1x authentication, RADIUS infrastructure, and EAP‑TLS certificate‑based authentication.
- CWNE (Certified Wireless Network Expert) or CCIE Wireless certification.
- Experience with AI‑powered tools for network automation, diagnostics, and operational efficiency.
