Job Description & How to Apply Below

At SSOE, we don't just design buildings; we create the essential frameworks of the digital economy. We are seeking a Data Center Design Specialist to lead our most technically advanced data center projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional adept at designing high-availability, power-dense environments for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise clients. You will serve as the architectural cornerstone of a multidisciplinary team, proficient in integrating complex cooling and power systems into seamless, sustainable designs.

From guiding Revit/BIM strategies to ensuring compliance with ASHRAE and NFPA standards, you will oversee the design lifecycle from schematic development through construction. If you're ready to contribute to the infrastructure that keeps the world connected, your next career milestone is waiting for you!

At SSOE, we're not only discussing the future; we're actively building it. As a leader in AI adoption within the industry, we empower our team to work more intelligently by providing access to leading AI technologies, coding platforms, and securely integrating advanced tools into all roles. From the outset, you will receive the training and support necessary to leverage AI as a fundamental tool for increasing productivity, igniting creativity, and streamlining complex workflows.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the architectural design and technical documentation for large-scale data center projects, managing all aspects from site planning to core/shell designs and complex configurations.
  • Develop comprehensive Basis of Design (BoD) documents, programming, and site-fit analyses, focusing on power density, tiered redundancy, and long-term modular expansion.
  • Be a technical resource during presentations and design collaborations, translating complex operational requirements into actionable architectural solutions.
  • Create and maintain BIM models using Revit, facilitating cross-discipline coordination and performing clash detection with Navisworks to minimize construction issues.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by interpreting and applying codes and standards, including IBC, NFPA, TIA-942, and local jurisdiction requirements.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, and IT teams to eliminate clashes and ensure system interoperability.
  • Prepare and review construction documents, specifications, and detail drawings, guaranteeing technical accuracy for client review and approval.
  • Conduct site assessments and verify existing conditions impacting architectural planning and system placements, optimizing scalability.
  • Oversee quality control reviews and validate design deliverables, providing technical leadership and mentoring of junior architects.
  • Manage submittal reviews, respond to RFIs with clear clarifications, and ensure timely project turnover.
  • Document design changes via formal change control processes to maintain alignment with client expectations.
  • Incorporate sustainable design principles and support LEED documentation to minimize environmental impact.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited program is required.
  • Licensed Architect with authority to take responsibility; capable of obtaining additional state registrations as project needs evolve.
  • Minimum seven years of professional architectural experience, mostly focused on mission-critical data center facility design.
  • Strong familiarity with scalable data center design principles and critical infrastructure requirements.
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center facilities and their unique design demands is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of relevant codes and standards such as IBC, NFPA, and TIA-942.
  • Exceptional technical communication skills, effectively interfacing with clients and technical teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior architects, promoting professional development within project teams.
  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $135,000/year based on location, education, and experience. This position also offers ample rewards, leadership incentives/bonus programs, and opportunities for ownership investment.
  • Benefits:
Including comprehensive health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, a 401K retirement savings plan (with matching), professional development opportunities (including support for licensure & certifications), and generous PTO & paid holidays.

Join us at SSOE, where your expertise will thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering excellence. If you are passionate about innovation and eager to make a significant impact, we invite you to apply and become a part of our forward-thinking team.
