Symbotic is currently seeking a principal robotics engineer to join our Mobile Robotics Software team. We are looking for a creative and collaborative person who thrives in an agile development environment. This role contributes to a talented team of roboticists working on the heart of Symbotic’s mobile robot platforms.
What We DoThe team is responsible for delivering solutions for the storage and retrieval use cases performed in a fully autonomous warehouse operating 100s of mobile robots at customer sites. The role requires excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate in highly cross‑functional environments along with strong technical problem‑solving skills and passion to tackle real‑world challenges in robotics.
What You’ll Do- Own design, development and testing of control algorithms for mobile robot’s case handling tasks – navigation and manipulation.
- Own delivery of robotic control software in a diverse team of roboticists and software engineers.
- Act as subject matter expert for sensor fusion estimation techniques and control algorithms for autonomous navigation and manipulation.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering and product teams on planning, design, and development of new and existing features.
- Own quality, reliability and testability of the software codebase.
- Troubleshoot system problems in production or design by investigating issues related to product performance or production difficulties.
- Identify risks and provide solutions that lead to successful customer deliveries and improvements in system performance.
- Up to 10% travel may be required.
- Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Aerospace or related discipline.
- 6+ years’ of demonstrated experience in development of algorithms for mobile robot applications related to localization, manipulation and navigation.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver robotics software products deployed in real world.
- Knowledge of C++ embedded coding and design patterns suitable for real‑time environments.
- Knowledge of real‑time or embedded operating systems and threading and communication issues related to real‑time operating systems.
- Experience with software process and version control tools.
- Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain/teach technical concepts to others.
- Up to 10% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
- The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi‑weekly basis.

CompensationThe base range for this position in the posted location is $ - $, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
