Robotics, Systems Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer, Software Engineer
A well-funded robotics startup based in Austin is building intelligent robotic platforms for deployment in demanding, real-world operational environments. They work with a range of enterprise and government customers and have moved from early-stage prototyping into a scaling, production-focused phase.
As part of their continued growth, they are strengthening the software and platform engineering side of the team. Current engineering strength sits heavily on the hardware and systems side, and they now need someone who can own the software platform layer, connecting hardware, sensors, and operator-facing features into a coherent and reliable system.
They are now looking for an experienced Robotics Software Engineer to help design and build the software systems that power their robotic platforms in the field.
Key Responsibilities- Deploy and integrate platform-level software that connects hardware, sensors, cameras, and operator-facing features
- Design and own features end-to-end, from requirements and architecture through to field deployment
- Interface with cameras, video systems, hardware sensors, robotics middleware, and communication systems
- Contribute to system design decisions and practical engineering tradeoffs across the platform
- Operate across the stack as needed, from hardware interfaces up to operational software features
- Work closely with hardware, electrical, and mechanical engineers in a fast-moving, low-process environment
- 3+ years of hands-on robotics experience, whether through ROS, real hardware interfacing, or systems integration in a robotics or autonomous systems setting
- Strong systems thinking mindset — you naturally ask "I have a robot, an operator, and a feature requirement. How should this system be designed?"
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Linux
- Experience working with cameras, sensors, or hardware interfaces in a real engineering context
- Startup or high-ownership environment experience strongly preferred
- Networking, video streaming, CANBus, SLAM, Docker, or computer vision exposure are all valuable additions
- Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
This is a strong opportunity to join a venture-backed robotics company at a pivotal stage, working on platforms that operate in real, high-stakes environments with a focused and driven team.
