What To Expect
Tesla is seeking highly motivated individuals who thrive in a fast‑paced environment to take on a wide range of manufacturing and development challenges. This individual will apply technical skills to set up, operate, and adjust high‑volume production equipment. The Engineering Process Technician is a key member of the Technical Operations Team and helps the Process Development Engineers focused on developing innovative processes, equipment, and tooling to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Execute equipment setup, operation, parameter optimization, and preventive maintenance across equipment in prototype, pilot, and production phases to meet defined safety, quality, throughput, and availability targets and diagnose process and equipment issues using data‑driven root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies; define, test, and implement corrective and preventive actions during production and engineering builds.
- Develop, document, and maintain standardized operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and control plans for new or existing processes in accordance with engineering standards.
- Partner cross‑functionally with Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, and Maintenance to design and execute DOE, validation plans, and test methods for process optimization and capability improvement.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret process and equipment data using approved measurement systems, software tools, and statistical methods to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive decisions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality yield, cycle time, scrap reduction, and tool uptime, using structured problem‑solving and performance metrics.
- Perform in‑process and post‑process inspections and testing to verify process stability, product conformance, and readiness for scale during engineering and production builds.
- Assemble, test, and qualify components and assemblies using dedicated tooling and defined process parameters, providing detailed feedback to engineering on design and process risks.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical and electrical schematics and engineering drawings for troubleshooting and process optimization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, charts, basic formulas) and Microsoft Word for technical documentation and reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and reasoning skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage and organize technical data effectively.
- Proven capability to identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities, including safety, ergonomics, yield, quality, and delivery performance; able to lead small‑scale improvement or validation projects using structured problem‑solving methods.
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, dynamic manufacturing or engineering environment, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and perform time‑sensitive technical analysis under pressure.
- Command of the English language, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly document findings, present data, and communicate technical information across cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain.
- Frequently and repetitively lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs.
- Frequently and repetitively bend, lift and reach, stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day.
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
