Job Description

Senior Engineer II – Validation (USB, Ethernet, and Networking Validation Team) – Locations:
Austin, TX;
Chandler, AZ;
Hauppauge, NY.

This role validates advanced connectivity products such as Ethernet PHYs, Ethernet switches, USB 3.2 hubs, and PCI Express devices operating at data rates over 25 Gbps. The successful candidate serves as a technical leader in validation scoping, execution, debugging, and results analysis, collaborating with Design Engineering, Verification Engineering, Applications Engineering, Product Marketing, Product Engineering, and Field teams to ensure high‑quality, production‑ready silicon.

Responsibilities
  • Drive validation scoping by reviewing architecture specifications, datasheets, verification plans, and customer usage models to identify risks and coverage gaps.
  • Lead development, ownership, and execution of validation strategies and test plans aligned with product requirements and market needs.
  • Serve as a cross‑functional validation interface, collaborating closely with Design Engineering, Verification Engineering, Applications Engineering, Product Marketing, and Product Engineering.
  • Perform and lead lab‑based validation, including design bring‑up, characterization, and interoperability testing for high‑speed connectivity devices.
  • Provide hands‑on hardware support, including review of validation board designs, board bring‑up, system‑level debugging, and debugging of power, clocking, reset, and high‑speed interface issues.
  • Define, track, and prioritize validation activities based on technical risk, customer impact, and program schedules.
  • Own and drive JIRA‑based debug workflows: logging, triaging, prioritizing validation issues, leading cross‑functional debug and root‑cause discussions, and tracking fixes, re‑validation, and closure.
  • Review, analyze, and clearly communicate validation results, debug findings, and recommendations to project and management stakeholders.
  • Support customer issue reproduction and escalations by collaborating with Applications and Field Engineering teams.
  • Mentor junior validation engineers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of validation processes, metrics, and best practices.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 7.5+ years of experience in validation, test, or system‑level debug of complex ICs or connectivity products.
  • Strong experience defining validation scope from specifications, verification collateral, and customer usage models.
  • Hands‑on hardware experience: PCB bring‑up and debugging, understanding of power delivery, clocking, reset sequencing, and signal integrity fundamentals.
  • Proficient use of electronics lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive debug, prioritize issues, and manage multiple deliverables.
  • Experience using JIRA or similar issue‑tracking systems for debugging, prioritization, and closure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical reviews, validation reports, and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Self‑motivated, well organized, and effective in a collaborative, cross‑functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of high‑speed connectivity protocols:
    Ethernet, USB (USB 2.0 / USB 3.x), PCI Express.
  • Experience reviewing schematics and layouts for silicon validation or reference boards.
  • Python‑based automation for validation, data analysis, or lab equipment control.
  • Exposure to IC device characterization and silicon performance analysis.
  • Experience supporting customer escalations involving system‑level and silicon interaction issues.
