What To Expect As an Automation Engineering Technician at Tesla, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing assembly processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in our fast-paced General Assembly shop. You will collaborate closely with engineers and production teams to troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, and ensure seamless operations.

What You ll Do- Operate, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial robots, primarily FANUC and KUKA (teach pendant operation, frame and tool setup, payload tuning, path optimization, and recovery from faults)
- Modify and debug Siemens PLC programs (TIA Portal / Step
7), including ladder logic edits, HMI updates - Calibrate, replace, and integrate sensors (proximity, vision, encoders) and actuators (pneumatic, electric, hydraulic)
- Knowledge in electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic installation on automated cells and production lines
- Support new equipment installation, commissioning, runoff, and ramp-up of automated systems
- Collaborate with Controls, Process, and Manufacturing Engineers to deploy software and hardware upgrades
- Follow and reinforce all safety standards, including LOTO, arc flash, and robot safety procedures
- 5 years or more years of experience working in a controls technician/engineer role on production manufacturing equipment and/or have equivalent training or relevant education
- Must be willing to learn factory specific programming standard for PLC, Robots and VFD’s
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or 5S methodologies
- Experience with data analysis and use of tools such as Excel
- Advanced computer proficiency with the ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new software applications across diverse platforms
