Responsibilities- Engineering Support Techs assist in transportation engineering support work such as construction or maintenance inspection, structural construction or maintenance, laboratory work, landscaping, surveying, or engineering data collection, operating data collection equipment, and other entry-level engineering support work.
- Perform assignments following specific instructions and undergo frequent reviews by the immediate supervisor.
- May compile information from microfilm records and other archival materials; develop spreadsheets, databases, and other electronic documents.
- Gather basic data and assist with routine statistical analysis.
- Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, airports, traffic signals, and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Inspect materials, equipment, and production procedures to ensure materials meet Department specifications; move items related to these duties as required.
- Inspect routine maintenance contract work; obtain material samples for analysis and assist with routine lab testing including operation and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
- Perform data entry and computer-aided analysis; perform mechanical and electrical repairs as directed; perform survey work and traffic data collection.
- Prepare base sheets, details, specifications, and estimates for landscape construction projects; prepare worksheets and inspection reports.
- Process construction-related documents and maintain construction project records; scan drawings and file related documents.
- Use drafting equipment and perform hand or computer-aided drafting and calculating work.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned;

- Education: Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS.

Conditions:
Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school. Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.

Required to wear protective hard hat or other PPE; subject to outside environmental conditions; medium work with lifting requirements; various physical activities as listed (standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.).- Pre-employment physical may be required; drug testing may be conducted for safety impact positions.
