Role Overview
As a Manufacturing Engineer at Applied Materials, you will develop and maintain methods, operating sequences, and processes for the fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. You will coordinate with other engineering functions to release product improvements and new products, estimate and reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements. Your expertise in lean principles, automation, and continuous improvement will drive operational excellence and higher productivity.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain all methods, operating sequences, and processes for fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies.
- Coordinate release of product improvements and new products with other engineering functions and manage manufacturing engineering projects as needed.
- Collaborate with test engineering on the design, development, and sourcing of test fixtures.
- Gather operational and test data, evaluate results, and take corrective and continuous improvement actions.
- Lead the team in applying Design for Excellence (DFx) principles to estimate and reduce manufacturing and product costs, and improve product quality.
- Determine time standards and recommend tooling, process requirements, cycle time or labor hour reduction projects.
- Identify root causes and corrective actions for issues during assembly, system testing, or from the field; perform Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis and provide reports.
- Perform MFG and Logistics DMR usage dispositions and work with suppliers for resolution.
- Mentor and train junior level engineers as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated conceptual knowledge and technical experience for everyday problem-solving on the job.
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to clearly explain complex information to others.
- Understanding of industry best practices and how manufacturing engineering integrates with other business areas.
- Ability to lead small‑scale projects with manageable risk and resource needs.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of developing new perspectives on existing challenges and synthesizing information from multiple sources.
- Ability to influence outcomes and drive improvements across customer, operational, project, or service activities.
This position may require standing for extended periods, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, distinguishing between colors, working in a noise environment that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, and using hand and power tools. The role may also involve working in a clean room, requiring the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment such as coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons, and face shields.
