Short Description
Bowman has an opportunity for a LiDAR Technician III to join our team in Austin, TX.
PurposeServes as an advanced technical resource responsible for processing complex LiDAR datasets, performing detailed QA/QC, and supporting project leadership. Acts as a mentor for junior staff and contributes to process improvement initiatives.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Direction
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff.
- Assists project leads with workload planning and technical reviews.
- Serves as a subject matter resource for LiDAR processing workflows.
At the Operational and Company Level
- Collaborates with project managers, survey teams, and engineering groups.
- Assists with production planning, scheduling, and resource coordination.
- Supports development of standards, procedures, and training materials.
- Identifies opportunities for automation and workflow improvements.
Do the Work
- Process complex LiDAR datasets and troubleshoot technical challenges.
- Perform advanced classification, feature extraction, and surface modeling.
- Conduct comprehensive QA/QC reviews and ensure compliance with client specifications.
- Utilize Micro Station, Terra Scan, Terra Modeler, Global Mapper, and related software at an advanced level.
- Support PLS‑CADD and engineering‑ready deliverable development.
- Manage coordinate systems, transformations, and geospatial data integrity.
- Develop technical documentation and best practices.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

- Clear and effective communication with internal teams and external clients.
- Continuous improvement through adoption of new tools, technologies, and automation strategies.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and workflow management.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree or technical coursework preferred.
- Five or more (5+) years of LiDAR processing experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Micro Station CONNECT, Terra Scan, and Terra Modeler and intermediate proficiency in PLS‑CADD.
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and geospatial standards.
- Experience mentoring staff and reviewing technical work.
- Experience with scripting, automation, Python, or VBA preferred.
