Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.

Purpose

Provide highly skilled technical support to maintain efficient and reliable HVAC, mechanical, BAS, electrical, and interrelated systems for the campus, improve the preventative maintenance program, and assist with facilities maintenance projects.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze, recommend, and implement solutions for problems related to mechanical, electrical, and other complex building systems under existing or new conditions.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve maintenance procedures and guidelines, incorporating the latest technological improvements.
  • Manage maintenance repair projects, including budget oversight, customer communication, coordination with other work groups, and directing contractors.
  • Review design drawings and specifications for HVAC controls and other mechanical/electrical systems on new construction and renovation projects to ensure energy efficiency, maintainability, and compliance with standards.
  • Provide technical input on construction projects to achieve optimal life‑cycle cost solutions for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Organize and maintain drawings, maintenance manuals, repair procedures, and guidelines; support the optimization of the maintenance management system.
  • Assist and supervise inspections of new and renovated buildings, participate in owner meetings, review construction submittals, and close‑out documentation.
  • Conduct regular site visits, meet with owners, project managers, and contractors, enter warranty data, and follow up to ensure resolution of warranty claims.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned and attend staff meetings, safety training, and meetings. May drive university vehicles; if so, maintain acceptable driver rating as established in policy.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or another engineering field from an ABET accredited university.

Zero to two years of increasingly responsible experience with facility HVAC, mechanical and electrical system measurements, analysis, design, capacity modification, and troubleshooting.

Knowledge of building and energy codes.

Experience with simultaneously designing and managing several projects through to conclusion within restrictive time constraints.

PC experience, including developing and using complex spreadsheets and software for engineering analysis, project budgeting, cost tracking, and facilities management.

Ability to review and interpret MEP plans and specifications.

Relevant internship experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or another engineering field from an ABET accredited university.

Progressive experience in a university or institutional environment with more than two years of increasingly responsible experience.

Experience in large commercial HVAC, mechanical and electrical system measurement, analysis, design, capacity modification, and troubleshooting.

Experience as a level‑III mechanical engineer or equivalent in the University of Texas at Austin or a similar institution.

Experience in MEP system commissioning and development of preventive maintenance programs for large commercial mechanical systems.

Experience determining project costs, energy savings, paybacks, and locating sources of project funding.

Experience in design, procurement, installation, programming, maintenance, commissioning, and project management.

License as a Professional Engineer from the Texas State Board of Registration.

Commissioning certification or other relevant certifications or licenses.

OSHA 30‑hour certification.

Salary Range
