Position: Environmental Scientist / Geologist

Tetra Tech is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to support environmental investigation, compliance, permitting, and reporting projects for oil and gas clients. The selected candidate will assist with field sampling, data collection, laboratory coordination, data review, technical reporting, and regulatory submittals for projects involving soil, groundwater, air, vapor, and other environmental media.

Essential Job Functions

Support environmental projects for industrial, chemical, refinery, manufacturing, and other regulated clients.

Conduct field activities including soil, groundwater, air, vapor, surface water, and waste sampling.

Collect and document field data.

Coordinate with laboratories and subcontractors.

Review analytical data.

Prepare tables, figures, reports, letters, permit applications, and regulatory submittals.

Work collaboratively with project managers, technical staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.

Follow company and client health and safety requirements and support project execution from planning through reporting.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Engineering, or a related science field.

0 to 3 years of environmental consulting, industrial compliance, field sampling, technical writing, or related experience.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to collect and organize field data, review laboratory analytical data, and support preparation of technical reports and regulatory submittals.

Applicant must be able to travel and perform fieldwork as needed.

Subject to background checks, pre‑employment drug screening, and random drug and alcohol testing, including urine and hair testing, as required by company and client policies.

A pre‑employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.

Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with environmental field sampling, technical reporting, laboratory data review, and regulatory submittals preferred.

Familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations, oil and gas facilities, and field equipment preferred.

Experience with Excel, Adobe Google Earth, and GIS preferred.

OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50lb in variable weather and terrain.

Ability to travel and perform field work as required (approx. 25‑50% of travel required).

Ability to walk across variable terrain, including uneven ground, in all weather conditions (extreme hot/cold temperatures, active oil and gas facilities, remote field locations, loud noises, bugs, etc.).

Have full range of motion to support field activities (ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach during field activities).

Ability to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) as needed.

Based out of the Austin, TX office with potential of a hybrid work arrangement, but the candidate must reside within 50 miles of the local office. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company’s discretion.
