Transportation Engineer Supervisor – District Maintenance (Austin District) (Position )

Austin District Headquarters – 7901 N. IH 35, Austin, TX 78753

Salary Range: $101,860 – $172,272 per year (B29)

Employment type:

Full‑time, Day Shift (Monday – Friday, 40 hours)

Responsibilities
  • Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance and bridge inspection.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
  • Acts as consultant to staff engineers regarding plan operations related to administration, programming, design, construction, right‑of‑way and maintenance.
  • Coordinates construction operations for staff engineers.
  • Analyzes, develops, recommends and implements facilities management policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
  • Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers, area office contract submissions, design and plan preparation, and with the Materials and Pavements Section concerning material testing, specifications and failures.
  • Co‑ordinates with other divisions and districts on contracting issues and serves as point of contact for the professional‑services contracting program.
  • Develops and monitors the budget.
  • Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation and monitors consultant’s performance.
  • Oversees construction‑project traffic‑control plans and periodically reviews traffic‑control devices.
  • Oversees contracts, issues work orders, monitors construction schedules, contractor payments and job progress.
  • Oversees data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.
  • Prepares and submits Plans, Specifications and Estimates (P.S.E.) on projects.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving for TxDOT.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science. Higher degrees accepted by TX PELS.
  • Experience
    :
    Minimum four (4) years in transportation engineering (full‑time or prorated part‑time). One (1) year supervisory/managerial experience required; project leader experience may substitute.
  • Licenses / Certifications
    :
    Valid driver’s license; authority to drive a state vehicle;
    Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (must obtain within six (6) months of hire).
  • Knowledge and Skills
    :
    Transportation design engineering principles; plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review and compliance; pavement maintenance; material used in highway/bridge construction; preventive maintenance methods; roadway maintenance concepts; competitive bid processes and regulations; contract development and oversight; business and technical data analysis; prioritizing and organizing work assignments.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • Sedentary work; occasional lifting up to 10 lb.
  • Prolonged sitting and walking over distances.
  • Verbal communication required.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment and may be subject to random drug testing.
