Senior Water Resources Engineer
A leading, employee-owned engineering firm is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to support and lead stormwater and water quality projects across Central Texas. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who combines deep hydrologic and hydraulic expertise with proven project leadership and client coordination experience.
The position offers the opportunity to guide multidisciplinary teams on impactful municipal projects focused on flood mitigation, watershed health, and resilient infrastructure solutions.
Position Overview
The Senior Water Resources Engineer will lead stormwater management and flood mitigation design efforts for public sector clients. This individual will oversee technical modeling, infrastructure design, quality control, and client communication while mentoring junior engineers and supporting long-term practice growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead stormwater management, flood mitigation, and water quality improvement projects
- Oversee design of detention and retention basins, open channels, storm drain networks, and stormwater control measures
- Direct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D and 2D, StormCAD, and EPA SWMM
- Prepare and review plans, specifications, and construction documents
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and client communications
- Coordinate permitting efforts with regulatory agencies and local jurisdictions
- Provide mentorship and technical oversight to junior staff
- Support proposal development and client relationship management
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in stormwater management and water resources design
- Professional Engineer license required, Texas licensure preferred or ability to obtain within six months
- Strong experience with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, StormCAD, EPA SWMM, GIS, and AutoCAD
- Proven experience preparing construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred Experience
- Certified Floodplain Manager certification
- Experience working in Central Texas with familiarity of local criteria
- Experience with stormwater control measures and nature-based solutions
- Exposure to business development and proposal support
