CPU Performance Research Engineer

As a Qualcomm CPU Performance Research Engineer, you will drive innovation in next-generation CPU performance, efficiency, and scalability. Qualcomm Engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the world of compute products from conceptualization through post-silicon verification.
Our CPU Performance Architecture group designs high performance, low power CPUs. As a CPU Performance Research Engineer, you will participate in forward-looking research on novel CPU architectures and disruptive performance ideas, well ahead of product definition. You will contribute ideas for CPU performance features, explore them in detail, model them, and work with the design team on feasibility.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with CPU Performance Architecture and RTL team members to identify opportunities for product improvement
- Perform self-guided exploratory studies to evaluate new CPU performance ideas and novel microarchitectures
- Analyze workloads to identify performance bottlenecks and opportunities
- Prototype features in CPU architectural performance model
- Work with RTL and design team to assess implementation cost for new features
- Collaborate with performance team to maintain and improve the simulation environment for increased productivity
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD degree in Computer Architecture with 4+ years of practical experience
- Proficiency in one or more areas of CPU architecture: fetch, decode, branch prediction, renaming, execute units, SIMD, load/store, MMU, caches, retire, etc.
- Knowledge of OS internals and compiler technology a plus
- Experience working in a performance modeling environment
- Proficient in C and C++ and scripting languages such as Perl or Python
- Ability to problem solve and prove your own ideas
- Knowledge and experience with common performance benchmarks and workloads
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
- OR
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- • Bachelor's degree in Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR
- Master's degree in Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR
- PhD in Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
- • 2+ years of CPU Architecture work experience.
- • 2+ years of work experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, etc.).
