Bridge Preservation Engineer
TxDOT's Bridge Division is looking for a Bridge Preservation Engineer! This engineer will support and lead statewide bridge preservation initiatives including; developing bridge preservation plans and strategies; leading TxDOT's bridge instrumentation and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) efforts; perform condition and damage surveys on existing bridges; and manage consultants performing detailed NDE, bridge condition assessments, and coatings inspection services. This engineer will report to the Construction and Maintenance Branch within Bridge Division.
The work location will be at 6230 E Stassney Lane, Austin, Texas 78744. Position Description
Transportation Engineer II, III, IV Performs highly advanced and complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge preservation. Organizes, plans, and performs work in support of statewide bridge preservation including developing preservation plans/strategies for major/signature bridges, advancing TxDOT's bridge instrumentation and NDE capability; participate, lead and represent TxDOT on initiatives related to bridge preservation. Manage consultants performing bridge assessments and condition surveys, and coatings inspection services.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with government officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
- Bridge Preservation Engineer II Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. Performs inspections, structural evaluations, and analyses of bridges and related structures Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans. Rates and monitors load carrying capacities of bridges. Travels statewide as required to perform essential duties. Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge preservation Analyzes data and provides summaries.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries. Performs moderately complex structural analysis of bridge designs Reviews literature, technical data, material specifications and procedures. Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.

- All of the above plus Serves as a technical advisor on research projects Performs inspections, structural evaluations, rating, and analyses of bridges and related structures that have low appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure.
