Enovis Surgical is dedicated to creating innovative orthopedic solutions that improve patient quality of life. As a key member of the Research and Development Team, you will play an integral part in designing and developing surgical instruments and implants for total joint arthroplasty, including shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee procedures. You will lead a small engineering team, collaborate cross‑functionally, and ensure our products meet FDA, ISO, and internal quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and mentor lower‑level engineers and co‑ops.
  • Actively participate in the New Product Development Team, incorporating surgeon design requirements and product characteristics.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (Manufacturing, Purchasing, Regulatory, QA) to define tasks, complete deliverables, and resolve issues.
  • Create product designs and supporting documentation, including risk assessments, verification/validation activities, design reviews, and design change notices.
  • Use 3‑D modeling (Solid Works) to develop concepts and mechanism designs; compile Design Dossiers or Design History Files.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and internal procedures; maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Review designs for feasibility, accuracy, and technical soundness; define and implement testing requirements.
  • Attend surgeon symposia, focus groups, and consultant meetings; evaluate new concepts presented by surgeons or internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance to review and monitor quality and process improvements for new product development.
  • Prepare project documentation, including user needs, surgeon feedback, engineering drawings, test plans, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Develop project plans, cost estimates, and specifications; report progress to upper management.
  • Create detail engineering drawings and CAD models; apply GD&T for tolerance stacking.
  • Manage prototype development through internal shop or external vendors; maintain basic knowledge of competitive technologies.
  • Maintain communication with customers and suppliers; present designs and prototypes for evaluation.
Minimum Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 years of design or development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with 3‑D CAD packages (Solid Works, NX).
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
  • Advanced mathematical skills, including exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, frequency distribution, test reliability, validation, and statistical analysis.
  • Comfortable working in varied environments (cadaver lab, mechanical testing lab, office).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet software, and contact/change management systems.
Travel Requirements

Less than 15% travel.

Desired Characteristics
  • Experience in engineering co‑ops or internships.
  • Minimum 2 years of people management or mentorship experience.
  • Experience in a regulated industry.
  • Experience in medical devices and/or orthopedics.
  • Experience with 3‑D CAD packages (Solid Works, NX).
