Bridge Construction and Field Support Engineer , II, III or IV - Bridge Division

Overview

Transportation Engineer I–IV positions based in Austin, TX. The Bridge Division – Construction and Maintenance Branch works to repair and preserve bridges, provide field construction support, train districts to perform in-house repairs, implement innovative solutions to problems, and respond to bridge emergencies. This position will be based in Austin and may travel to provide field and construction support across the state as necessary.

TxDOT's Bridge Division is looking to hire a Bridge Construction and Maintenance Engineer I, II, III or IV. The work location is 6230 E Stassney Lane, Austin, TX 78744. Salary ranges by level:

• Transportation Engineer I: $65,104 – $96,000 yearly
• Transportation Engineer II: $69,572 – $103,000 yearly
• Transportation Engineer III: $76,530 – $113,300 yearly
• Transportation Engineer IV: $84,182 – $124,600 yearly

• Transportation Engineer I:
  Designs bridge repairs and performs structural analysis on new or existing structures; develops/reviews engineering documents, correspondence, reports, and remediation plans; assists in reviewing shop drawings and lift plans; assists in developing specifications for details and projects; makes presentations and represents TxDOT; reviews designs/drawings; reviews shop drawings, plans, specs, estimates, change orders; conducts on-site reviews and provides technical support; prepares formal reports or condition surveys;
  
  coordinates trainings to promote in-house bridge maintenance efforts.
• Transportation Engineer II:
  Designs complex bridge repairs and performs structural analysis; develops/reviews engineering documents; assists in reviewing shop drawings and lift plans; assists in developing specifications; makes presentations; monitors consultants’ progress and work quality; represents the division at meetings; reviews designs/drawings; reviews shop drawings/plans/specs/estimates/change orders; conducts on-site reviews; prepares reports; coordinates trainings.
• Transportation Engineer III:
  Performs all I/II duties plus serves as primary help desk resource for routine technical/policy issues; updates/reviews/monitors requests for changes to plans/manuais; develops training materials; represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings; advises on administrative, technical, regulatory, and engineering aspects of bridge construction and maintenance.
• Transportation Engineer IV:
  Performs all above duties plus acts as project manager overseeing consultants; monitors contract performance, evaluates deliverables, reviews billing, ensures contract compliance, and prepares evaluations of consultant performance.

Education
:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science (bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS).

Experience
:

4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications include:

• 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience; related graduate level education may be substituted (year-for-year).
• 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience; related graduate level education may be substituted (year-for-year).
• 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience; related graduate level education may be substituted (year-for-year).

Licenses and Certification
:
Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required);
Licensed Professional Engineer; professionals licensed in another state must obtain Texas PE within six months of hire and sign an agreement to that effect.

For Transportation Engineer I and II:
