The primary responsibility of the Stormwater Business Class Lead is to provide in-house leadership and guidance for stormwater services, deliver projects for clients, and grow HDR’s external visibility of the Stormwater Program. This role supports the overall vision and strategy of multiple offices and coordinates staff across sections to deliver projects and proposals with innovation, applicable standards, and relevant resumes. It includes working with project engineers to prepare planning-level and design-level projects (drainage reports, contract/bid documents) and collaborating with other design disciplines for integrated solutions and business development opportunities.

The role also involves project management, production support, and business development responsibilities. It will identify and execute HDR services needed by municipal and utility-operated stormwater programs in Texas, as well as internal services.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in capturing planning processes and driving business development opportunities
  • Assist local offices with recruiting, as needed
  • Identify stormwater professional organizations and conferences for staff participation
  • Foster relationships with local stormwater clients and professionals
  • Organize and disseminate industry best practices to project teams and staff
  • Drive and participate in national stormwater-related initiatives
  • Lead comprehensive stormwater management and master planning
  • Understand state stormwater regulations and manuals
  • Apply asset management applications and tools
  • Lead Planning, Design, and Construction phase services:
    • Surface Water H&H Modeling and Mapping
    • Nature-based solutions and Green Infrastructure/Low Impact Development
    • Stream rehabilitation and restoration
    • Stormwater collection and conveyance
    • Erosion mitigation
    • Flood protection and mitigation
    • Stormwater quality treatment
  • Best management practices (BMPs) for water quality treatment
  • Low Impact Development (LID)
  • Leading watershed planning
  • Applying hydrologic and stormwater/drainage modeling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum of ten years of related work experience, including experience in conceptual, preliminary, and final design of drainage and stormwater projects
  • Maintains a Professional Engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experience with hydrology, hydraulic/drainage design, and stormwater facility design software
  • Ability to function as a leader and an active team player in a diverse multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience with liaising with and coordinating staff at all levels
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Organized and mission-driven
  • Experience with GSI/LID
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a professional, architecture, engineering, or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
