The Austin District Bridge Section is seeking a Transportation Engineer II, III, or IV to join our team. We are looking for an engineer with experience in Bridge Design, Bridge Inspection, and/or Bridge Repair. This position plays a key role in supporting the district's bridge program, including bridge design, evaluating bridge conditions, developing repair plans, reviewing design documents, and coordinating with Area Offices and maintenance sections.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to ensuring the safety of our bridge infrastructure. Experience with plan development for bridge design and repair, as well as field assessments, is highly valued. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to grow within TxDOT, contribute to high-impact projects, and work alongside a collaborative and experienced bridge team.

Position Description This position performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.

Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:
The essential duties for a Transportation Engineer II include:
Assists in performing structural review of complex forming, falsework and erection details. Performs complex structural analysis of bridge designs. The essential duties for a Transportation Engineer II, III, or IV include:
Assists in providing recommendations to the Motor Carrier Division for routing of overload vehicles. Develops specifications for special bridge design details and projects. Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries. Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.

Performs complex structural analysis of bridge design. Performs inspections, structural evaluations and analyses of bridges and related structures that have appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure. Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridge. Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians. Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.

Inspects structures for impact damage and construction problems and may design emergency shoring to prevent collapse of damaged structures.

Additional duties for a Transportation Engineer III, IV include:
Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.
