Transportation Engineer V

Department:
Information Technology Division – State of Texas Department of Transportation.

Responsible for providing expertise in training and user support across civil engineering disciplines including bridge, roadway design, construction, maintenance and traffic technology for engineering applications and software. Offers customer service, effective communication, and advanced expertise in highway and bridge design, traffic engineering, or related areas.

• Analyze new or existing procedures and information systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
• Provide roadway, bridge, traffic, construction, maintenance or related civil engineering support to districts and divisions.
• Review and recommend engineering applications and software.
• Serve as primary help‑desk resource for highly complex and advanced technical and policy issues.
• Assist districts with transportation engineering related matters.
• Develop training courses and/or materials.
• Ensure compliance with transportation engineering standards.
• Provide assistance and technical support to districts, divisions and the FHWA concerning engineering standards.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science (degree accepted by TX PELS).
• Experience:
  
  Minimum 8 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience.
• Licenses &
  
  Certifications:
  
  Valid driver’s license; licensed Professional Engineer (or steps to obtain state license).

• Experience with civil engineering software and applications.
• Experience leading and supporting technology projects for civil engineering.
• Experience training professional civil engineers and staff.
• Extensive knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, road and bridge construction, inspection methods, and TxDOT design standards.
• Proficient in performing basic design and drafting, applying engineering principles, maintaining effective working relationships, and digital delivery workflows.
• Excellent customer service skills.

• Sedentary work; lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally carry files/small tools.
• Prolonged sitting and repetitive wrist motions.
• Close visual acuity.
