Roadway Illumination Engineer – Traffic Safety Division

Help us keep the lights on for Texas! The Traffic Safety Division is looking for a Roadway Illumination Engineer for the Illumination group in Traffic Engineering. This engineer will work with the group to develop and oversee standards, specifications, practices, and policies for roadway lighting on Texas highways; work with TxDOT Districts, contractors, and consultants to design, build, and maintain a safe and effective roadway lighting and electrical system;

work with manufacturers and suppliers to specify and approve standard lighting and electrical equipment used throughout the state; and develop and oversee classroom, field, and online training programs covering lighting, electrical, and safety practices for TxDOT employees, contractors, and consultants. The work location will be at 6230 E Stassney Lane, Austin, Texas 78744.

Position Description

Roadway Illumination Engineer II Salary Grade B25 $ 69,572 - $114,099 Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation and traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with government officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments;

however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Roadway Illumination Engineer III Salary Grade B26 $ 76,530 - $129,430 Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation and traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.

Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Roadway Illumination Engineer IV Salary Grade B27 $ 84,182 - $142,374 Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation and traffic operations or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.

Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
